United States House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson has called on New York City Columbia University's president Minouche Shafik to resign for failing to quickly dismantle pro-Palestinian violent protests.

“We just can’t allow this kind of hatred and antisemitism to flourish on our campuses. And it must be stopped in its tracks. Those who are perpetrating this violence should be arrested,” Johnson, R-La., said on the steps of Columbia’s Low Library, flanked by several of his Republican colleagues.

Hypocrisy over Gaza

Incredible. This monologue by Pat Condell, was not released in conjunction with the ongoing Israel-Hamas war which broke out on 7 October, 2023. It was made public 9 years ago.

Pat Condell, former panelist on BBC Radio, discusses the perceived hypocrisy in the global response to the conflict in Gaza. He criticizes the selective outrage directed at Israel and contrasts it with the lack of response to atrocities in other regions. Condell argues that Israel is unfairly blamed for defending itself against attacks, while the actions of Hamas, such as using human shields and exploiting their own people, are overlooked. He emphasizes Israel’s unique status as a free country in the Middle East, offering equal rights to all citizens, and questions the viability of returning to the 1967 borders, given the constant threat of attack.

Dan Schueftan, an Israeli academic is known for his insights on international relations and Middle Eastern affairs, particularly concerning Israel and its relations with neighboring countries.

"So we can't afford to listen to them because if we had listened to the United Nations we would had to commit suicide. You see the general assembly adopted a resolution in 1975 if I'm not mistaken that Zionism is racism in the decades of elimination of racism; So we should have eliminated ourselves… Even the Europeans are trying to be nice to people who come from uncivilized countries because they need a majority. So when you are fighting constantly for your existence, listening to people who have no moral justification or legitimacy to come up with a kind of accusations they do, then if we can ignore them we are in good shape, if we can't we are in trouble but politically not morally."

טקס זיכרון מרשים במיוחד נערך במוזיאון השואה בוושינגטון די. סי. בטקס זה נשא דברים נוקבים יושב ראש המוזיאון נגד ההתעלמות וחוסר המעש של העולם (כולל ארה"ב) אל מול הסימנים המוקדמים של השואה.  בין הדוברים היה גם שגריר ישראל בארה"ב,  מיכאל הרצוג, אשר קשר את אירועי ה-7 באוקטובר לשואה.

טקס זיכרון חשוב נוסף לציון יום השואה הבינלאומי נערך בבניין האו"ם בניו יורק. באירוע זה נשא דברים, בין היתר, שגריר ישראל לאו״ם, גלעד ארדן. השגריר התייחס לאירועי ה-7 באוקטובר ולכך שהאו"ם לא טרח עד עצם היום הזה לגנות את הניסיון של החמאס לרצח עם ולא על הטבח הברברי שביצע.

טקס זיכרון נוסף לציון יום השואה הבינלאומי נערך בפרלמנט האירופאי. באירוע זה נשאה דברים ניצולת השואה סימון וייל. סימון וייל הייתה פוליטיקאית ועורכת דין יהודיה-צרפתייה, כיהנה כשרה בממשלות צרפת והייתה נשיאת הפרלמנט האירופי.

Orit… I guess I’m referring to the region called Palestine which was under British mandate until 1947. The mandate didn’t recognise the needs or wishes of the Palestinian people and so Palestine never achieved independence. It was then handed over to become a Jewish National home especially because there were many ostracised Jewish during WW2. Palestinians have since been ousted and persecuted and their territories occupied. Sorry for the history lesson. I used to hope there was a solution and that both sides of the conflict could eventually live in peace but I’m very doubtful. Obviously I condemn killing and oppression regardless of who’s doing it but there is a hell of a lot of misinformation and lies floating around right now.

Dani… the British mandate of Palestine was recognised as the Jewish national home ever since the Balfour declaration in WW1, not during WW2. It included what is today known as the kingdom of Jordan and Palestine/Israel. The land was then split into two colonies. One in which Jews were allowed to immigrate to and would one day become a Jewish state (mandate of Palestine) and another renamed trans Jordan (today's Hashemite kingdom of Jordan) to which Jews were forbidden from immigrating. The land was never actually handed to the Jews as the British promised in the Balfour declaration as they wanted to keep both Arabs and Jews content in order to have control over the territory. In 1947 they gave up the territory to the UN which after a thorough investigation divided the land into two countries. An Arab majority country and a Jewish majority country. Following this the Jews accepted the partition plan (which is actually outlined in the original post in white). And the Arabs refused and began attacking Jewish supply convoys to Jerusalem. Following this Israel declared independence and was attacked by all Arab nations surrounding it. Israel won and ended up conquering more land than what was originally given to it in the partition plan. The Palestinian territories Gaza and the west bank were conquered by Egypt and Jordan respectively and controlled by them until the 1967 war. If the Arab world really wanted to create a Palestinian state, they could've done so in the many opportunities they had throughout history (original UN partition plan, Jordanian and Egyptian control of the territories, Ehud Barak's offer for the creation of a Palestinian state in 2000 and Ehud Olmert's offer in 2008). All of which were rejected. The majority of Palestinians and the Palestinian leadership that represents them do not want a two state solution. They want to eradicate Israel off the map and create a Palestinian state "from the river to the sea". This is why there will never be peace with the current Palestinian leadership. Also the Gaza strip has not been occupied by Israel since the unilateral withdrawal of Israeli troops and settlers in 2005. With the takeover of Hamas in 2006 which have committed crimes against humanity (indiscriminate rocket fire into Israeli cities, mass murder, rape, kidnapping and mutilating of women, children and elderly as well as oppressing its own people and especially the Christian minority, using them as human shields and cannon fodder in a war they know they cannot win, misusing international aid money ect) Israel and Egypt enacted a blockade on the strip to ensure no weapons can enter. All of this happening after the 2005 withdrawal convinced the Israeli public that there cannot be an independent Palestinian state in the west bank as it would just become another terror state like Gaza and would threaten Israeli cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. My question to you is do you believe Israel has the right to exist as a state for the Jewish people in the land of Israel? Do you think all of the land is occupied by Israel and it needs to be returned? If so what do you suggest for the 7 million Jews living in Israel?

Orit… I believe there should be a place for everyone. I don’t think what the Israeli government is doing right now can ever be justified though. Killing children and raiding and bombing hospitals?? This isn’t the solution obviously. Also, now there has been some contract signed that has caused a reduction in the Armenian quarter and a high rise luxury hotel is in the planning on holy land. I don’t know. I find this all very depressing. I need to dip out of this conversation.

Dani… what the Israeli government is doing right now is attempting to free the  230+ hostages (including a 10 month old baby and 80+ year old grandparents) and eliminate Hamas. It is doing everything it can to avoid civilian casualties but it has a responsibility to defend its citizens and make sure that the mass murder, rape and kidnapping that happened on October 7th can never happen again. What Hamas is doing is hiding among the civilian population, shooting rockets from within them, storing missiles, ammunition and grenades in schools and hospitals. Of course children (almost 50% of the Gazan population are under 18) are being killed as collateral damage because Hamas puts them in harm's way by transforming hospitals, apartment buildings and kindergartens into military targets. Under international law a civilian building is no longer protected if it is used for military purposes. It may be struck after a warning is sent out and enough time has been given to evacuate (precisely what Israel is doing by distributing over 20 million leaflets, calling people hundreds of thousands of people and sending SMS). All the death and destruction in Gaza is solely Hamas' responsibility as they started this horrific war and are doing everything in their power to make sure as many civilians die so that the world is on their side. They are even holding people at gunpoint and not letting them evacuate. Don't forget that the people of Gaza elected them in 2006 knowing their charter said the Jewish state must be eliminated and that they want to carry out terror attacks against civilians. They must also be held accountable for their own actions as their children suffer from their poor judgement just as we hold the Germans of the 1930s accountable for the Nazi crimes against humanity. The majority of Gazans that voted for Hamas are responsible in part for this. Also when it comes to Christian minorities, the Muslim world has notoriously treated them horribly and the Christian population in the middle east is disappearing everywhere but in Israel, where they are citizens and enjoy equal rights to everyone else and more rights than they would enjoy in any other Muslim majority nation. As you can imagine I also find this very depressing due to the fact my family and friends are there right now and some of them have sons and daughters serving in the army who could get killed at any moment. They are also suffering from daily indiscriminate Hamas rocket fire into their cities (sometimes several times a day) which hits hospitals, schools and apartment blocks if not intercepted by the Iron Dome.
My point is that this is more complicated than just people being killed by the IDF for no reason. The media will have you think Israel wants to kill as many Gazans as possible and is committing horrible crimes against humanity (which is not true as I just explained). This will inevitably cause a rise in antisemitism as we saw with the comment before implying Jews deserved the holocaust ("now we know why they didn't want them in Europe").
This is very dangerous.

מארק רגב, שגריר ישראל לשעבר בבריטניה, בראיון מאתגר במיוחד לכתבת הטלוויזיה של Sky News.

קשה שלא להבחין במוסר הכפול של המראיינת Anna Botting העולה מתוך הטענות אותן היא מטיחה בפני המרואיין הישראלי, מארק רגב, שגריר ישראל לשעבר בבריטניה. הראיון התקיים ביום ה-11 למלחמה בעקבות מתקפת הפתע של החמס על ישראל בתאריך 07.10.2023, וכשעה לאחר פרסום הידיעה בדבר תקיפה של בי"ח בעזה ע"י מטוסי ישראל. בלתי נתפס הדבר כיצד עתונאית בכירה זו מקבלת את טענת חמס שישראל תקפה כביכול במכוון מבנה בית חולים בעזה וגרמה למותם של 500 פלסטינאים לפחות, כעובדה מוגמרת. כל זאת מבלי להטיל כל ספק במידע זה ומבלי להמתין לסיום בדיקת המקרה ע"י הצד הישראלי. יתרה מזו, העתונאית מנסה להאשים את ישראל ללא כל היסוס בפשע מלחמה ובגרימת בעיה הומניטרית קשה ביותר על רקע אירוע זה. העולה מכל זאת הוא כי לערוץ טלוויזיה זה דעה מוטית מראש בכל הנוגע לסכסוך הישראלי-פלסטינאי. גם לאחר שישראל סיימה לחקור העניין ופרסמה את גרסתה המוכחת שמדובר בירי טיל כושל של הג'יהד, גרסה הנתמכת ע"י האמריקאים, לא טרחה רשת הטלוויזיה הבריטית להתנצל. כל מה שעשתה רשת החדשות הבריטית הוא להציג את שתי הגרסאות הגירסה של חמס מול הגירסה של ישראל. ראויה לציון היכולת המקצועית של המראיון המצליח להחזיר מלחמה שערה ואת שליטתו המצויינת בשפה האנגלית. ראיון זה מדגיש את החשיבות הרבה של הקרב על ההסברה אותו חייבת ישראל לנהל בעולם במקביל למלחמה בחמס.
